Jack Wilshere believes that Myles Lewis-Skelly will continue his run of impressive performances in his new midfield role at Arsenal.
Myles Lewis-Skelly emerged as one of the most promising young talents during the 2024/25 season. After having standout performances against Real Madrid and Manchester City last season, Lewis-Skelly earned himself an England call-up.
The Hale End graduate scored on his England debut against Albania and showed to the world how good he can be.

This season Myles Lewis-Skelly’s minutes have been reduced, especially with the form of Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie. In what could have been a tough period for him, Lewis-Skelly kept a positive mindset.
Mikel Arteta made the decision to put Lewis-Skelly in midfield during a crucial part of the title race. After his performance against Fulham, it was clear that Lewis-Skelly fits into midfield perfectly.
Appearing on talkSPORT Drive at the Maddison Invitational, which is a golf event that raises money for various charities, Wilshere was asked about the 19-year-old’s recent position change.
The former Arsenal player was asked if Lewis-Skelly has now found his best position, which Jack Wilshere agreed with.
“Yeah I think so,” Wilshere said. “And I think you can see how brave he is. He wants to turn the game forward, I always like that about a midfielder.
“He used to do that all the time in the youth team, and then took it into the Under-21s. I don’t mind him playing left-back because, when I came into the team, I played as a right winger.
“Okay, it’s not right wing, but positions change and you have to be able to adapt, and that’s why I’m so happy for him because he got on with it.
“I know he didn’t want to be left-back, but he committed himself to it. Obviously, he’s a left-back who goes into midfield.
“So, eventually, once he gets a little bit fitter, probably, he’ll play there more consistently.”

Arsenal’s future midfield
With Myles Lewis-Skelly’s recent performances in midfield, Arsenal now have significant depth in that area of the pitch. Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi have played the most minutes out of any Arsenal midfielder this season.
Mikel Merino, Christian Norgaard, Eberechi Eze and Martin Odegaard make up the rest of Arsenal’s midfield depth.
With the upcoming Champions League final, Mikel Arteta has a big decision to make regarding to the starting midfield. Given the streak of games Myles Lewis-Skelly has played, there is a big chance that the Englishman starts in the final.
Given Arsenal’s desire to compete on all fronts, Arsenal’s number of players in the midfield could be one of the reasons as to why Arsenal might continue to win big trophies.
