The controversy began last week when the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees—largely remade by Trump appointees after he assumed the chairmanship earlier this year—voted to rename the institution the “Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.” Within hours, workers affixed new signage to the building’s iconic marble facade overlooking the Potomac River, placing Trump’s name prominently above Kennedy’s.
