WASPI women issue ‘tiny’ update in battle for £2,950 payouts from DWP

Women are fighting after an Ombdusman report recommended they be compensated over historic injustices with regards to the state pension age.

WASPI women have issued a NEW update in their battle for £2,950 payouts from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ). Women are fighting after an Ombdusman report recommended they be compensated over historic injustices with regards to the state pension age.

But the Labour Party government has refused to administer funds. In a new update on social media, the WASPI campaign, chaired by Angela Madden, said: “The Ombudsman said there was maladministration because of the lack of notice we received about the increase to our State Pension age, and that caused an injustice.

“The Compensation would be for the injustice we suffered and the harm it did. The compensation would cost a tiny fraction of what Governments have saved by its actions.”

It added: “If your MP said, ‘paying compensation wouldn’t be fair or proportionate’, neither was it fair not to give adequate warning to the women affected.

“However, the Government saved over £180billion increasing the state pension age, just for women.”

One retiree replied: “Is the judicial review going to be back on the table again? I thought it was delayed due to DWP investigating new information? Now the DWP (obviously stalled) have remained with the same answer will the Judicial review take place?”

WASPI replied: “We are doing what we said we would, which is to take legal advice at the highest level.

“These things take time and we must allow our lawyers the time to give their full attention to it.

“We will update via members email, Facebook, Instagram, X and Bluesky when there is news on this.”

Another said: “Most women of that age group, weren’t even allowed to join their work pension scheme. I guess because they were the last generation to have part time jobs.

“So could take care of the family. How then could they make up that massive short fall in wages.”

“There was not enough notice given in case no notice, for this important life change,” said another.

“No time to plan financially. It was unjust.”
