Pam Bondi FLEES Hearing as Judge CATCHES Her REMOVING Evidence – liplip

WASHINGTON — A contentious congressional hearing examining the federal government’s handling of documents connected to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation erupted into sharp exchanges this week, as lawmakers pressed Attorney General Pam Bondi over missing materials and the management of records tied to the case.

The hearing, held before the House Judiciary Committee, quickly grew tense as members from both parties questioned why millions of pages of Epstein-related records required under federal transparency measures have yet to be publicly released.

At the center of the dispute is a growing gap between the number of documents investigators say were collected and the number that have actually been made available.

According to lawmakers familiar with the review process, roughly six million documents, photos and other materials were gathered during the investigation. Yet only about half of that number has so far been released through official channels, raising questions about what remains withheld and why.

Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin told the committee that the missing materials include some of the most significant categories of evidence, including witness statements and FBI interview notes.

“These are exactly the kinds of records the transparency law was designed to make public,” Raskin said during the hearing.

Bondi, responding to the criticism, argued that the Department of Justice is continuing to review the documents and that the process involves complex legal considerations involving privacy protections and investigative procedures.

But frustration inside the hearing room grew as lawmakers pointed to another development that intensified the controversy: the removal of a previously available document from the Justice Department’s public website.

According to members of the committee, a memorandum related to a past Epstein prosecution was accessible online before being taken down during the document review process.

Raskin told Bondi that the removal suggested the issue was not merely a backlog in processing files but potentially an active decision about which materials should remain public.

“If a document was already available and then disappears from the website,” he said, “that raises serious questions.”

Republican Representative Thomas Massie, who helped draft the law requiring the release of Epstein-related records, also criticized the Justice Department’s handling of the disclosure process.

Massie described the situation as a “massive failure” to comply with the statute passed by Congress, noting that the law required the department to release the materials within a specific timeframe.

The criticism from Massie carried particular weight because he was one of the authors of the legislation mandating the disclosure.

Outside of Congress, the dispute has now reached the federal courts.

A judge overseeing a related transparency challenge recently issued a preservation order directing the Justice Department to maintain all Epstein-related files while the legal dispute continues.

The order also included a warning that removing documents from public records during the litigation could raise potential legal issues related to obstruction.

Legal experts say such preservation orders are typically issued when courts want to ensure that evidence remains intact while disputes over disclosure are resolved.

“It’s essentially the court telling everyone involved that nothing should be altered or destroyed while the case is under review,” said one attorney familiar with federal document litigation.

The confrontation in Congress has also fueled widespread attention online, where videos and commentary about the hearing have circulated widely.

Some online accounts have portrayed the events as a dramatic courtroom confrontation involving the physical removal of evidence. However, no verified reports indicate that such a scene occurred during the hearing.

Instead, the documented controversy centers on the broader question of how the Justice Department has managed the release of Epstein-related records and whether it has complied with the legal requirements established by Congress.

As the dispute continues, the House Oversight Committee has taken another step that could intensify scrutiny of the department’s actions.

In a recent vote, the committee approved a subpoena requiring Bondi to participate in a closed-door deposition related to the handling of the Epstein files.

The deposition, which would be conducted under oath and recorded on video, could require the attorney general to answer detailed questions about how decisions were made regarding which documents were released and which remain withheld.

For now, the debate surrounding the Epstein files remains unresolved.

But with millions of pages still unaccounted for, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle say the pressure on the Justice Department is unlikely to fade anytime soon.

As one member of the committee remarked after the hearing, the central question remains simple: what exactly is contained in the documents that have not yet been released.
