Ted Lieu Catches Kash Patel In DEVASTATING Lie About Epstein Files.DB7

WASHINGTON — A heated exchange during a recent congressional hearing drew new attention to federal oversight of investigations connected to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. Representative Ted Lieu, a former U.S. Air Force legal officer, pressed FBI Director Kash Patel with a series of questions about how the bureau has handled files related to Epstein and his associates. The questioning, which unfolded before the House Judiciary Committee, focused on investigative procedures, internal reviews and the status of evidence connected to the case.

Lieu, who previously served as a judge advocate in the Air Force, began by referencing his background in military law and investigative questioning. He said that years of courtroom experience had taught him to watch for patterns in testimony, including evasive language and incomplete answers. Rather than immediately raising Epstein-related allegations, he initially asked Patel about standard FBI investigative procedures, including how files move through the chain of command and which cases ultimately reach the director’s desk.

Patel responded that investigative files are typically compiled by field agents, reviewed by unit supervisors and then forwarded through the bureau’s leadership structure. High-profile matters, he said, can reach the director’s office for review. Lieu then shifted the discussion to the Epstein investigation, asking whether the case had been treated as sufficiently important to reach Patel directly. Patel said summaries of the matter had reached him but suggested that he had not personally reviewed every document contained in the broader file.

The congressman then cited what he described as an internal review of Epstein-related records conducted earlier in 2025. According to Lieu, that review reportedly referenced dozens of individuals categorized as “high-profile names.” Patel did not confirm the specific figure cited during the hearing and described the referenced document as an internal draft assessment. He added that discussing details of internal reports could involve classified or sensitive investigative information.

Lieu also questioned the scale of the investigative effort assigned to reviewing the files. Patel said that a specialized team had been tasked with examining the materials and conducting a detailed assessment. While he did not provide an exact number, he indicated that the group consisted of roughly a dozen personnel. Lieu compared that figure with the far larger investigative teams assigned to past federal cases, arguing that the size of the review raised questions about the scope of the effort.

During the exchange, Patel maintained that the bureau had not identified a definitive “client list” connected to Epstein’s trafficking operation. At the same time, he acknowledged that various names appear in investigative records collected over the years. Legal experts note that the appearance of a name in investigative files does not by itself constitute evidence of criminal wrongdoing, and prosecutors must meet strict evidentiary standards before bringing charges.

The discussion also briefly turned to the circumstances of Epstein’s death in federal custody in 2019. Authorities previously ruled the death a suicide following an official investigation. Lieu referenced outside medical opinions that have questioned aspects of that conclusion and asked whether those views had been evaluated. Patel said external analyses had been included in the case file but indicated that the bureau’s official findings had not changed.

Near the end of the exchange, Lieu asked whether all documents and evidence related to Epstein held by the Department of Justice might eventually be released publicly. Patel replied that some materials could remain restricted due to legal protections, privacy concerns and the potential impact on victims and ongoing investigative matters. The hearing concluded without additional disclosures, but the questioning underscored continuing congressional interest in how federal authorities have handled one of the most scrutinized criminal cases in recent years.
